Hickok Reaches 1,000 Points in Wildcats' Loss in Omaha

OMAHA, Nebraska – The Weber State Wildcat women's basketball team had some hot shooting from the outside, good rebounding, and a career milestone for one of its stars on Wednesday evening, but ultimately fell to the Omaha Mavericks by a score of 91-73.
A beautiful inside-outside combination helped the Wildcats take a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. Weber State scored eight points in the paint to go along with three pointers from Jadyn Matthews and Daryn Hickok as the Wildcats ended the quarter with a two-point advantage.
Vicky Parra and Emma Torbert each made shots from beyond the arc in the second quarter, highlighting a a 16-point frame for Weber State. The score at halftime was 33 points each. The Wildcats never trailed in the first half.
The Mavericks came out of the locker room and couldn't be stopped in the third quarter. Omaha scored 14 points in the paint and ended up outscoring Weber State 27-16 to give the Mavs an 11-point advantage heading to the fourth.
WSU's offense was purring in the fourth quarter en route to 24 points, but Omaha couldn't be stopped. The fourth, however, was highlighted by a Hickok floater in traffic that gave Monka her 15th and 16th points of the evening, but more importantly pushed her career total over the 1,000-point plateau. The Wildcats fought hard and played well on offense but couldn't stop Omaha's offensive firepower. Omaha took the game 91-73.
Weber State (0-2) returns home to The Dee Events Center on Saturday, November 19 at 1:00 against the Utah Valley Wolverines.
NOTABLES
-Hickok became just the 22nd Wildcat to score 1,000 points in her career. Emily Drake and Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman, both of whom played from 2015-19, were the two most recent Wildcats to reach the 1,000-point mark.
-Matthews once again led the team in scoring with 21 points, and was one of a trio of Wildcats (Parra, Amelia Raidaveta) who had six rebounds.
-Matthews had a career-high in made three pointers in a single game with three.
-Weber State shot a blistering 9-20 from outside. Taylor made three and Hickok also added a pair.
-WSU out-rebounded its opponent for the second consecutive game (33-30).
