Wildcats fall to Bobcats 33-25 in second round playoff game

Weber State's season ends at 10-3.
Montana State ran for 388 yards and totaled 554 yards of offense, compared to 317 yards for Weber State.Â
MSU jumped out to a 33-10 lead early in the fourth quarter, before two Wildcat touchdowns cut the lead to eight. But the Bobcats converted on their final drive to seal the win.Â
The Wildcats scored first with a 39-yard field goal by Kyle Thompson on their first drive of the game. Montana State came right back with a 75-yard drive and a touchdown to take a 7-3 lead, then scored their first of three field goals and led 10-3 early in the second quarter.Â
Weber State tied the game 10-10 with 9:32 to play in the second quarter when Bronson Barron found Ty MacPherson for a 15-yard touchdown.Â
MSU added three-straight field goals and led 19-10 early in the third quarter, then scored on a 28-yard touchdown and led 26-10 with 2:36 to play in the third quarter.Â
The Bobcats made it 33-10 early in the fourth quarter after a 47-yard touchdown pass which gave the Bobcats 23-straight points.Â
Weber State got back on the board after a 31-yard touchdown from Kylan Weisser to Jon Christensen and got a two-point conversion to make it 33-18 with 9:50 to play.Â
Weisser found Hayden Meacham for an 8-yard touchdown with 4:42 to play but the 'Cats couldn't stop Montana State in the final drive.Â
Individually, Barron threw for 82 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game with a concussion. Weisser was 9 of 13 for 111 yards and two touchdowns.Â
The 'Cats ran for 124 yards with Dontae McMillan leading the way with 56 yards. In his final game as a Wildcat, Josh Davis ran for 29 yards.Â
Another senior, Ty MacPherson, had five receptions for 59 yards, giving him exactly 1,000 receiving yards this season, along with 11 touchdowns. Jacob Sharp had four catches for 44 yards and Jon Christensen had three catches for 45 yards and a touchdown.Â
On defense, EJ Evett started the game for the injured Desmond Williams and led the Wildcats with a career-high 12 tackles. Winston Reid added nine tackles with seven solo tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss and had one forced fumble.Â
The loss ends Weber State's season at 10-3. The Wildcats have won at least 10 games in four of the last six seasons.Â
