'Cats fall 77-65 to Utah Tech

OGDEN - After six of the first seven games on the road, Weber State men's basketball finally returned home Saturday night but the Wildcats dropped a home game to in-state opponent Utah Tech 77-65 at the Dee Events Center.
Utah Tech jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead and never trailed the rest of the way. The Trailblazers led 40–28 at halftime and led by as many as 21 points midway through the second half. Weber State was never closer than 10 points in the second half.
Utah Tech shot 54 percent from the field and made six 3-pointers, while WSU shot 50 percent and was 4 of 14 from 3-point range. The Trailblazers outrebounded the Wildcats 30-22 and scored 19 points off Weber State's 13 turnovers.
Steven Verplancken scored 15 points with three 3-pointers to lead the Wildcats. Dillon Jones added 13 points with 11 rebounds and five assists, giving him four double-doubles this season. Zahir Porter scored 12 points off the bench for the Wildcats.
Weber State (2-6) heads back on the road Wednesday at California Baptist before returning to the Dee Events Center to host Division II Saint Martin's next Saturday night.
