Wildcats drop overtime heartbreaker to Bears

Koby McEwen led Weber State with 29 points.

OGDEN - Weber State dropped an overtime heartbreaker as the Wildcats fell 83-79 to Northern Colorado Saturday night at the Dee Events Center. 

The loss dropped the Wildcats to 19-9 overall and 12-5 in Big Sky play with three conference games remaining. 

How it happened 
The Wildcats closed the first half on a 6-0 run and held a 32-25 lead at halftime. 

Northern Colorado posted a 15-3 run midway through the second half and took the lead at 58-55 with 5:03 to play. 

It was back-and-forth the rest of the way. WSU took a three-point lead with 20 seconds left before a three-pointer by Matt Johnson tied the game and sent it into overtime. 

The extra period saw six lead changes but the Bears were a perfect 6 for 6 from the field in the overtime to seal the win.

Key numbers
Koby McEwen led the Wildcats with 29 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists. 

Dontay Bassett added 13 points, while Dillon Jones had his 15th double-double, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds, to go along with six assists and three steals. 

Both teams shot 44 percent from the field. The Bears knocked down nine 3-pointers, compared to seven for the Wildcats. WSU outrebounded Northern Colorado 41-39. 

Up next
The Wildcats hit the road at Portland State Thursday and at Northern Arizona on Saturday. The final home game of the season and the final regular season game will be on March 5 against Southern Utah.
