PORTLAND - Weber State made a late rally but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats fell 81-75 to Portland State Thursday night at Viking Pavilion.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 19-10 overall and 12-6 in Big Sky play with two conference games remaining. WSU is now third in the league standings behind Montana State and Southern Utah.
How it happened
There were four ties and six lead changes but those all came in the first half. Portland State led 34-31 at halftime.
The Vikings went on a 14-2 run and took a 13-point lead at 68-55 with 9:17 to play.
PSU led by 14 points with 6:09 to play when Weber State went on a 14-2 run over the next five minutes and cut the lead to 77-75 with 56 seconds to play. But the 'Cats did not score again the rest of the way as the Vikings held on for the win.
Key numbers
WSU outrebounded the Vikings 36-33 but gave up eight offensive rebounds, all coming in the second half. WSU also had 14 turnovers but made five 3-pointers, while the Vikings knocked down 11 3-pointers. WSU was 20 of 22 from the free throw line.
Koby McEwen led the Wildcats with a game-high 24 points, his 12th game this season scoring 20 or more points. He also had six rebounds and four assists.
Seikou Sisoho Jawara added 18 points and knocked down four 3-pointers. Zahir Porter scored 11 points and had five rebounds. Dillon Jones pulled down 13 rebounds, his 11th-straight game in double figures.
