Pentzer and Hickok lead the 'Cats with 16 points each
Missoula, MT - The Wildcats put up a tough fight this Thursday evening in Missoula, MT against the Lady Griz, but for the third time this year a last-second shot led to a loss for the Wildcats. This time by the score of 59-61. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 8-13 (4-8 in Big Sky play).Â
How it Happened:
The Wildcats fell behind early in this one, and found themselves down by 9 at the end of the first quarter. However, great defense and good shooting led to a second quarter in which the 'Cats outscored the Griz 20-9 and put WSU up by 2 at the half. The 'Cats trailed 31-33 with 2:11 remaining in the first half, but a 17-0 scoring run over the next 7 minutes of game time put the 'Cats up by 15 at 48-33 with 5 minutes to go in the third period. Leading 52-41 heading into the final quarter, the Wildcats shot just 2 for 12 and were outscored 20-9 in the final frame. A 3-pointer by Kori Pentzer tied the score at 59 with 27 seconds to go, but a field goal by Montana's Sophie Stiles as time expired gave the game to the Griz.
Numbers to Know:
For the game, Weber State out-shot and out-rebounded Montana, but 14 turnovers and a 7 point differential in free-throws made proved to be their undoing. Kori Pentzer and Daryn Hickok led the 'Cats in scoring with 16 points each.
