'Cats Wrap Up Regular Season With A Loss To Southern Utah

Daryn Hickok and Jadyn Matthews both lead the 'Cats in double digits
Cedar City, UT - The Weber State women's basketball team (10-19 overall, 6-14 in the Big Sky) ended their regular season this Friday evening with a 65-75 loss against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds.Â
How it Happened:Â
As has been the habit for this team of late, the Wildcats started the game slowly. Struggling to score early, the 'Cats fell behind the T'Birds and dug an early hole, ending the quarter down 10.Â
The poor shooting continued in the second and third quarters for the 'Cats. In each quarter, they made only 2 field goals, but they were able to convert 10 free throws in each, keeping them in the game. The Thunderbirds saw their lead jump to 14 points in the second quarter, but by the end of the third, the 'Cats had whittled the lead down to just 5. Â Â
Still trying to make up ground, Weber State pulled to within 3 during the final frame. Unfortunately, this was as close as the 'Cats would get as the Thunderbirds continued to make their shots down the stretch and won by 10.Â
Numbers to Know:
Daryn Hickok led the 'Cats with 18 points and 6 rebounds, making 10 of her 11 free throw attempts. Jadyn Matthews had another solid outing with 12 points and 9 boards.
The Wildcats shot just 29% from the floor, converting only 17 of their 57 shot attempts. They shot only 4 for 23 from behind the arc. There were a combined 74 free throws taken in this game, with both teams making 27.
Weber State ended their regular season and will head into the conference tournament as the 10th seed.Â
Next Up:
The Wildcats earn the No. 10 seed in the Big Sky Tourament and will take on No. 7 seed Sacramento State on Monday, March 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the first round of the tournament in Boise, Idaho.Â
