Wildcats advance in Big Sky Tournament with 74-64 win over Hornets

Aloma Solovi scored a career-high 20 points in leading the Wildcats to the win.

BOISE, Idaho - Weber State rallied from an early deficit with a big second half and the Wildcats advanced in the Big Sky Tournament with a 74-64 win over Sacramento State Monday in the first round. 

It's Weber State's first win in the Big Sky Tournament since 2017.

The Wildcats will now take on No. 2 seed Montana State in the quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Boise.  

How it happened 
Sac State jumped out to an 11-2 lead four minutes into the game and the Hornets led by as many as 12 points in the first quarter before an 8-0 Wildcat run cut the lead to 20-16 early in the second quarter. 

WSU got within two points late in the second quarter and Sacramento State held a 32-27 lead at the break. 

It was all Weber State in the second half as the Wildcats took the lead with a huge third quarter. After back-to-back 3-pointers from Aloma Solovi, Weber State took its first lead at 45-44. The 'Cats outscored the Hornets 22-12 in the third quarter and led 49-44 heading into the fourth. 

Led 59-49 midway through the fourth quarter and never looked back. Weber State scored 25 points in the fourth quarter. 

Key numbers
The Wildcats outrebounded the Hornets 38-25 and had 21 second-chance points. WSU shot 46 percent from the field and held the Hornets to 38 percent. The 'Cats also were 10 of 11 from the free throw line and made seven 3-pointers, with six coming in the second half. 

Solovi led the Wildcats with a career-high 20 points. She was 6 of 12 from the field and made three 3-pointers. She also dished out six assists. 

Daryn Hickok added 19 points. She was 4 of 6 from the field and 10 of 11 from the free throw line. Emma Torbert had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds and Kori Pentzer also added 15 points with three 3-pointers. Jadyn Matthews had five points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. 

Up next
The Wildcats will take on Montana State at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the quarterfinals. The two teams split the two meetings in the regular season with Weber State winning by five points in Ogden and Montana State winning by three points in Bozeman. 

Tuesday's game will be televised on ESPN+.
