Wildcats and Bobcats in Big Sky Quarterfinals Tuesday

Weber State and Montana State will tipoff at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Tournament in Boise.

 • It's on to the quarterfinals for Weber State at the 2022 Big Sky Tournament in Boise, Idaho.  

The No. 10 seed Wildcats will take on No. 2 seed Montana State on Tuesday, March 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals at the Idaho Central Arena in Boise. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and the ESPN app with Jenny Cavnar and Krista Redpath on the call. 

The Wildcats won their first Big Sky Tournament game since 2017 with a 74-64 win over No. 7 seed Sacramento State on Monday night. The 'Cats outrebounded SAC State 38-25 and committed just five turnovers. Four Wildcats scored in double figures in the win. 

Montana State finished the regular season 19-12 overall and was 14-6 in Big Sky play, earning the No. 2 seed in the tournament. MSU's Darian White was named co-Defensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous selection for first team All-Big Sky honors. 

The two teams split the season series during the regular season. Weber State won 68-63 on Dec. 30 in Ogden and Montana State won 74-71 on February 5 in Bozeman. In the two games, Weber State shot 46 percent from the field, compared to just 34 percent for the Bobcats. Daryn Hickok averaged 25 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in the two games. 

This is the 21st time Weber State is playing at the Big Sky Tournament. The Wildcats are 15-18 all-time in tournament games. In the conference tournament, the WSU-MSU series is tied 2-2 and this is the first meeting between the two schools since the quarterfinals in 2017.

In Monday's win, senior Aloma Solovi led the Wildcats with a career-high 20 points and dished out six assists. She also knocked down three 3-pointers which tied her Wildcat career-high. 

Earlier on Monday, Wildcat junior Daryn Hickok earned Big Sky second team all-conference honors for her performance this season and Monday night she added to that with 19 points. She was 4 of 6 from the field and 11 of 12 from the free throw line. Hickok is third in the Big Sky in scoring at 15.4 points. She has scored in double figures 23 times and has reached 20 or more seven times. Hickok is also eighth in the league in rebounding and second in field goal percentage at 53.5 percent. She also ranks fifth in steals and eighth in free throw percentage. 

Emma Torbert added her fifth double-double of the season on Monday as she finished with 15 points and tied her season-high with 12 rebounds. She also dished out four assists. On the season Torbert is now 12th in the conference in scoring and 13th in rebounding. She is also third in the league in steals and blocks. Senior Kori Pentzer played all 40 minutes in Monday's win and added 15 points. She also knocked down three 3-pointers. Pentzer is fourth in the league in minutes played. 

WSU played nine games during the conference season that were decided by six points or less. The 'Cats are fourth in the country in free throws made and eighth in attempts.

The winner of Tuesday's game will play the winner of No. 3 Southern Utah and No. 6 Idaho on Wednesday in the semifinals of the tournament.
