'Cats drop final regular season game 80-70 to SUU

No. 4 seed Weber State will play No. 5 Montana on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals in Boise.
OGDEN - Weber State dropped its regular season finale and final Big Sky game against Southern Utah as the Thunderbirds beat the Wildcats 80-70 Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.Â
With the loss, Weber State finished the regular season 20-11 overall and ended in a tie for third in the Big Sky standings at 13-7.Â
Weber State will be the No. 4 seed in the Big Sky Tournament. The Wildcats will take on No. 5 seed Montana on Thursday, March 10 at 2:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals in Boise, Idaho.Â
How it happenedÂ
The game was tied 12 times and saw nine lead changes. Weber State closed the first half on an 8-2 run and held a 33-32 lead at halftime.Â
Both teams had runs in the second half before Southern Utah went on a 14-2 run and took a 66-57 lead with 3:10 to play. The 'Cats were never closer than seven points the rest of the way.Â
Key numbers
Southern Utah knocked down nine 3-pointers, with six in the second half, and outrebounded the Wildcats 36-27. WSU also committed 14 turnovers.Â
JJ Overton led the Wildcats with a career-high 23 points. He was 8 of 15 from teh field and a perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line.Â
Three other Wildcats scored in double figures. Koby McEwen added 17 points and knocked down four 3-pointers. He also pulled down sefen rebounds and had two steals and two blocks.Â
Seikou Sisoho Jawara had 11 points and four assists and Dontay Bassett added 10 points.Â

The Wildcats and Grizzlies will meet once again in the Big Sky Tournament. This will be the third time in the last four years and the ninth time in the last 13 years the two teams have met in the conference tournament.Â
