OGDEN - Another preseason national ranking for the Wildcats. Weber State is ranked 20th in the country in the AFCA FCS Coaches preseason Top 25, released Monday. The Wildcats were also 20th in the Stats Perform preseason poll.

It's six straight years, the Wildcats have been nationally ranked in a preseason poll.

Weber State is one of six teams from the Big Sky ranked in the AFCA poll, which is voted on only by coaches from across the country. Montana is second, Montana State is fourth, Sacramento State seventh, Eastern Washington 12th, and UC Davis 22nd. The Wildcats have all five of those teams on this year's schedule.

Practice is underway for the Wildcats who open the season on Thursday, September 1 against Western Oregon.

Head coach Jay Hill is back for his ninth season as the coach of the Wildcats. Hill is WSU's career leader in coaching wins with 58 and has led the Wildcats to four Big Sky titles and five trips to the FCS Playoffs.

The Wildcats are coming off a 6-5 record last season and return five players that earned All-Big Sky honors last year, including Noah Atagi and Eddie Heckard, who both were also named preseason All-Americans. WSU was picked to finish fourth in the Big Sky preseason polls.

Weber State will have six home games this season for just the second time in the last 13 years. It will also be just the second time in the last nine years the Wildcats will start the season at home.

The 'Cats also host Utah Tech on September 17 and host Eastern Washington (Oct. 8), Montana (Oct. 29), Sacramento State (Nov. 5), and Idaho State (Nov. 12) in Big Sky action.

WSU plays at Utah State on September 10 and will play at UC Davis (Sept. 24), Portland State (Oct. 15), Montana State (Oct. 22), and Northern Arizona (Nov. 19) in conference play.
