Weber State volleyball returns to Utah to finish up its non-conference schedule with matches against in-state rivals Utah Valley and Utah State.
THE MATCHES
• The Wildcats return home to Utah for matches at Utah Valley and against Utah State after going 1-2 in their tournament in California.
• The Wildcats are 10-10 all-time against UVU, and 24-38 all-time against Utah State.
• In Thursday's match against UVU, Weber State will be playing in its seventh consecutive match away from home - its longest such stretch of the season.
• Both matches this week will be available to watch on ESPN+. All home and Big Sky Conference matches this season can be seen on ESPN+.
QUICK HITS
• Weber State has won back-to-back Big Sky Conference championships, including the 2020-21 conference tournament. Over that stretch, the Wildcats have gone 41-12 overall and 28-4 in conference play. In 2021, the team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIVC, and in 2020-21 the Wildcats won the first NCAA tournament match in program history.
• Dani Richins was named the 2021 Big Sky Conference MVP, and was named an All-American for the second time in her career.
• The Wildcats hosted the Big Sky Conference tournament for the first time in program history in 2021. They advanced to the championship match for the third consecutive season.
• After having claimed the 2021 Big Sky regular season championship in 2021, Weber State also claimed the right to host the 2022 Big Sky Conference championship.
• The Wildcats were picked No. 2 in the Big Sky preseason polls, receiving two first-place votes.
• Head Coach Jeremiah Larsen is entering his eighth season leading the Wildcats, and brought in Sammi Stuart as his new associate head coach. Matt Kuelpman is returning for his fourth season as an assistant head coach.
• In WSU's match against CSU Fullerton, Makayla Sorensen set a new career high in kills (13), while Kate Standifird set a career high in digs (19).
RANKING RICHINS
• Richins' 24 kills against San Jose State tie a career high that she set in 2019 against the Idaho Vandals.
• One of the best Wildcats of all-time, Richins currently ranks in the top ten in Weber State history in career kills per set (3.50), attacks (3,426), service aces (140), and is the most recent addition to WSU's exclusive 1,000-kill club (1,209).
FANTASTIC FRESHMAN
• The Wildcats most recent recruiting class is one of the most highly-touted in school history, and several fantastic freshman are already making big impacts.
• Saane Katoa was named Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week in the opening week of the season. She tallied 19.0 blocks in the Wildcat Invitational - a tournament that Weber State went 3-0 in.
• When the Wildcats have needed a clutch kill, they've turned to true freshman Ashley Gneiting. Gneiting - who has scored crucial set and match-clinching kills several times this season - has led the team in kills in three matches this season.
• Brielle Rueckert had season highs in kills (8), attempts (11), and blocks (3.0) in Weber State's last match against CSU Fullerton.
