OGDEN - In Thursday's win over Portland State, Weber State scored a season-high 84 points. On Saturday against Sacramento State, the 'Cats scored a season-low 50 points. But 50 was enough as the Wildcats beat the Hornets 50-48 Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.
The win moves Weber State to 5-2 in Big Sky play and 10-10 on the season.
"That was my favorite win of the year," said WSU head coach Eric Duft. "To play offensively like we did tonight and still win is a testament to our team and how hard they play. I'm really proud of our team and the plays they made down the stretch."
Weber State shot a season-low 32.7 percent from the field but held the Hornets to just 29.1 percent, the lowest by any opponent this season.
Sacramento State held a 24-21 lead at halftime. Weber State went up 48-39 with 4:57 to play when the Hornets went on a 9-0 run and tied the game at 48 with 23 seconds left.
Dillon Jones scored a driving layup with six seconds left to put the Wildcats ahead and Sacramento State missed on its final shot.
The 50 points are the fewest points in a win for Weber State since a 47-46 win at Western Michigan in January 1990.
The Wildcats were 6 of 18 from 3-point range and held Sac State to 5 of 26 from 3-point range.
Jones led the way again with 18 points and 14 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season. He also had two assists and one steal and knocked down two 3-pointers.
Dyson Koehler tied his season-high with 12 points and grabbed five rebounds, to go along with two steals. Steven Verplancken added 10 points and had a team-high three assists.
Weber State is back on the road this week playing at Idaho on Thursday and at Eastern Washington on Saturday.
