'Cats beat Vandals 73-65 for third-straight win

Dillon Jones had 21 points and 14 rebounds for his 12th double-double. Steven Verplancken added 17 points and KJ Cunningham had a career-high 12 points.
MOSCOW, Idaho - Weber State won its third-straight game with a 73-65 victory over the Idaho Vandals Thursday night at the ICCU Arena.
The Wildcats never trailed and shot 57 percent from the field with seven 3-pointers. The 'Cats led by as many as 21 points before Idaho rallied to cut the lead to five points. But the Wildcats made five free throws in the final minute and held on for the win.
Weber State improves to 6-2 in Big Sky play and 11-10 overall.
WSU knocked down five of its first six 3-points and jumped out to a 24-11 lead with 9:07 to play in the first half. The 'Cats led by as many as 19 points late in the first half and held a 38-22 lead at the break after shooting 63 percent from the field.
The 'Cats jumped out to their biggest lead at 21 points midway through the second half before a 12-0 Idaho run cut the lead to nine at 60-51 with 6:41 to play.
The Vandals got as close as five points at 70-65 with less than a minute to play before the Wildcats made their free throws to seal the win.
Weber State was 7 of 13 from 3-point range and outrebounded Idaho 33-20, the fewest rebounds in a game by a Wildcat opponent this season. WSU held Idaho to 43 percent shooting.
Dillon Jones continued his strong play with another double-double. He scored 21 points on 4 of 6 shooting from the field and was 12 of 15 from the free throw line. He also pulled down 14 rebounds for his 12th double-double this season, and led the Wuldcats with four assists.
Steven Verplancken added 17 points, his eighth-straight game in double figures.
KJ Cunningham had a career-high 12 points and didn't miss a shot. He was 5 of 5 from the field, including 2 of 2 from 3-point range.
Thursday's game was the first of four-straight road games for the Wildcats. Weber State will play at league-leading Eastern Washington on Saturday at 2 p.m. Pacific time (3 p.m. MT).
