'Cats drop 75-71 road game at league-leading Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash. - Weber State dropped a tough one 75-71 at league-leading Eastern Washington Saturday afternoon at Reese Court.
The game marked the halfway point of the Big Sky season for Weber State. The Wildcats are now 6-3 in league play. Eastern Washington won its school-record 12th-straight win and improved to 10-0 in conference play.
The Wildcats trailed 32-27 at halftime but started the second half on a 9-0 run and took a 36-32 lead. WSU led 39-38 with 11:53 to play before a 8-3 EWU run gave the Eagles the lead for good.
Eastern Washington led by at least five points six times in the last 10 minutes of the half and each time Weber State rallied to cut into the lead but it was not enough to stop Eastern Washington, who won its 14th-straight home game.
The Eagles shot 52 percent from the field, compared to 49 percent for Weber State. The Wildcats were 9 of 24 from 3-point range, but made seven 3-pointers in the second half. EWU won the rebounding margin 36-22 and had 17 second-chance points.
Dillon Jones once again led Weber State with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Steven Verplancken added 16 points with two 3-pointers and Junior Ballard had 12 points off the bench and knocked down three 3-pointers.
The Wildcats will have a week off before continuing their four-game road trip next Saturday, February 4 at Idaho State. The 'Cats will also play at Northern Colorado on Monday, February 6.
