Wildcat football ranked ninth in the nation in final 2022 polls

It's the fifth time in the last six years Weber State has ended the season ranked in the top 10 in the country.
OGDEN - Weber State football has again finished the season ranked in the top 10 in the country.Â
The Wildcats finished the 2022 season ranked ninth in the nation in the final AFCA Coaches poll and the Stats Perform FCS media poll, following the completion of the 2022 season.Â
This is the fifth time in the last six years that Weber State has finished the season ranked in the top 10 in the nation. It is the sixth time ever in school history.Â
The Wildcats posted a 10-3 overall record in 2022, and won 10 games for the sixth time in school history, including the fourth time in the last five full seasons. It was also the eight-straight winning season for Weber State, a school record.Â
WSU also was 6-2 in Big Sky play and advanced to the FCS Playoffs for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. Weber State defeated North Dakota in the first round to advance to the second round. The season included a 35-7 FBS win at Utah State, the first FBS victory in 29 years. The season also included a home win over Montana and conference road wins over UC Davis and Northern Arizona. Â
National champion South Dakota State was ranked first. Weber State was one of three Big Sky schools in the top 10 and six conference schools were in the top 25.Â
Weber State had five players that earned All-America honors and 15 players earn All-Big Sky honors during the season.Â
Following the conclusion of the season, head coach Jay Hill left Weber State after nine seasons as the head coach. He left WSU as the all-time leader in coaching victories with 68 and led the Wildcats to four Big Sky Championships.Â
Mickey Mental was named the 12th head coach in WSU history on December 20, and will lead the Wildcats beginning with the 2023 season.Â
