10/14/2023 9:46:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
Portland, OR – Weber State volleyball closed out the weekend with a straight-set victory over the Portland State Vikings (25-21, 25-19, 25-18) at the Viking Pavilion.
Set 1
A 6-1 run helped Portland to a 6-1 lead in the early going. However, Ashley Gneiting collected a kill to stop the momentum and the two teams would trade points from there until the 'Cats managed to collect consecutive points and take the lead 17-11. Following a Portland timeout, an attack error made by the Vikings ended the set in favor of the Wildcats 25-21. Dani Richins collected six kills (.545) and Ashley Gneiting added two kills (.222) to lead the offense.
Set 2
Weber State pulled out to a 5-3 lead early on after collecting four kills. Looking to bounce back, the Vikings used a two-point run to tie the set 13-13, and using that momentum Portland pulled ahead to a one-point lead 18-17. The 'Cats would later put together a 6-1 run for themselves to lead 23-18. The Vikings cut the score to 23-19, but two attack errors made by Portland ended the match 25-19 for the Wildcats.
Set 3
Looking for a sweep, Weber State put together a 7-4 start in the third set with Dani Richins leading the way. The advantage was long-lived as the Vikings could not pull within more than three points resulting in a 25-18 victory and 3-0 sweep for the Wildcats.
Dani Richins totaled 19 kills in the win to lead Weber and Ashley Gneiting added eight kills. Kate Standifird recorded 16 digs, and Dani Richins added 12 digs. Weber State out-blocked Portland State 10-4 and out-served PSU with six aces to just three aces.
