Ogden, UT – Weber State volleyball dropped a four-set battle Thursday night at the Swenson Gym, falling to Northern Colorado (25-19, 15-25, 18-25, 24-26).
The momentum for Weber State started strong in the first set as the 'Cats pulled to a 5-2 advantage over the Bears. UNC chipped away at the lead but after consecutive kills from Weber, the Wildcats took control of the set to earn a 25-19 victory.
Weber State gave up four straight points in the second set to trail 5-11 but with a 5-1 run of its own and two kills made by Baylee Bodily, the 'Cats trailed by one 12-13. From there, the two teams went back and forth throughout the set with the Bears eventually gaining a 23-15 lead. The 'Cats however couldn't find their way back falling 25-15 in the second set.
The defensive errors poured on during the third set and although the offense was keeping the Bears defense in check, the errors added up quickly and UNC came away with their second set win 25-18. The fourth set played out similarly to the third set, with seven tied scores and eight lead changes. Weber State battled to tie the score 24-24 but a block error and two service aces dropped the set for the 'Cats 26-24 and the match 3-1.
"There is tons of room to grow and our consistency is not where it needs to be. I like where we're at, it's one game and hopefully, we can regroup and come in on Saturday and be better" said head coach Jeremiah Larsen. "We've been playing nice volleyball, hopefully one day doesn't make a whole season."
WSU had 37 kills and 6 aces compared to UNC's 51 kills and 11 aces. Baylee Bodily led the 'Cats tonight with nine kills and six blocks.
