Wildcats Rally, Pull Out 3-1 Win Over Lumberjacks

Flagstaff, AZ – Weber State volleyball hit the road on Thursday night, beating the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in a dominating way 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-21, 25-22). After the win, WSU improved to 11-4 in the Big Sky.
Weber State had an early lead in the first set at 10-2 and wouldn't look back from there. With a balanced offensive attack, Baylee Bodily had four kills and both Brielle Rueckert and Ashley Gneiting had two. The 'Cats cruised to a 25-17 set one victory and a 1-0 advantage to lead the match.
There was a change of narrative in set two. The Lumberjacks lead over the Wildcats 5-3 for the first time in the match and it was a back-and-forth rally between the two squads from there. The score was tied seven times throughout the set but a four-point run made by NAU gave them what they needed in the final stages and Northern Arizona prevailed, taking the second set 26-24.
The third set saw more excellence from the Weber State squad. In addition to a strong defense, setter Kate Standifird kept the Lumberjacks guessing and spread the ball all over the court. WSU went on to win the set 25-21. Turning up the heat in the fourth set, Weber State recorded 11 kills off the bat with three made by both Mia Peterson and Saane Katoa who entered the match for the first time during the set. Weber ran away with a 25-22 win to close out the road match in favor of the Wildcats.
WSU recorded 52 kills on the night, Baylee Bodily led the Wildcats with 12. Close behind Dani Richins recorded 11 and Kate Standifird with eight. Weber State hit .183 compared to their opponents .118.
