Peter Visser heading to NCAA Championships Saturday

Weber State sophomore Peter Visser will represent the Wildcats at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The University of Virginia is hosting the NCAA Championships in Charlottesville. The men's 10K race will begin at 9:10 a.m. on Saturday morning. The meet will be televised live on ESPNU.

Visser qualified for the NCAA's as an individual after his 24th-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships last weekend. He posted a time of 29:43.1 to finish 24th overall on the 10K course and earn All-Region honors. The top four individuals from each region from teams that don't qualify for the NCAA Championships are invited to compete as individuals in the NCAA meet.

"I'm very excited and grateful to have this opportunity to compete on the biggest stage in the world and to rub shoulders with some of the best athletes," Visser said. "I'm familiar with the course and hope to be in a position to earn All-America honors."

Visser and the Wildcats raced on this course in October at the NCAA Pre-Nationals. Visser was the top finisher for Weber State in that race, as he finished 24th overall with a time of 23:41.9 on the 8K course.

Visser, a native of Afton, Wyoming, earned All-Big Sky honors by finishing 7th at the Big Sky Championships on October 27 in Missoula, Montana, helping Weber State to a third-place team finish.
