'Cats beat Yale in overtime at Atlantic Slam

MONCTON, New Brunswick, Canada - Weber State had to play an extra five minutes but the Wildcats got back on the winning track with a 75-65 overtime win over Yale in the second game of the Atlantic Slam Tournament Saturday night.Â
Weber State led 33-29 at halftime. The Wildcats went on a 12-2 run and held a 14-point lead with 8:20 to play. WSU led by 12 with 6:30 to play when Yale went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to five with 3:56 to play.Â
WSU led by seven with 3:09 to play before a 9-2 run to close the half by Yale forced overtime.Â
It was all Weber State in the extra period as the 'Cats never trailed and outscored Yale 16-6 to seal the win.Â
Yale shot 44 percent from the field, compared to 39 percent for the Wildcats but WSU made eight 3-pointers and the 'Cats outrebounded the Bulldogs 39-29.Â
Weber State was also 19 of 20 from the free throw line.Â
Jones again led the Wildcats with 17 points and had another double-double with 15 rebounds. He also had two assists and was 6 of 6 from the free throw line.Â
Steven Verplancken added 15 points for the Wildcats and was 8 of 8 from the free throw line.Â
Blaise Threatt, Alex Tew, Dyson Koehler, and Viljami Vartiainen each added eight points for the 'Cats. Threatt added a season-high seven rebounds and had four assists and a steal. WSU had 24 points off the bench.Â
Yale was the preseason favorite of the Ivy League.Â
The Wildcats will close out action at the Atlantic Slam on Sunday with a game against Colgate, the preseason favorite of Patriot League.Â
Tipoff against Colgate will be at 2 p.m. Atlantic time (11 a.m Mountain time).Â
The game will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
