Weber State falls to UC Santa Barbara in San Diego

Weber State dropped its second game of the San Diego Thanksgiving Classic Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats lost 61-51 to UC Santa Barbara. The game was part of the Dana at Mission Bay Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by the University of San Diego.
The Gauchos led by seven after the first quarter, before Weber State cut the lead to two points midway throught the second quarter. UC Santa Barbara closed the first half on an 8-5 run.
UCSB outscored WSU 17-11 in the third quarter and led by as many as 13 points early in the fourth. The Wildcats rallied to cut the lead to six points but couldn't get closer as the Gauchos made six free throws in the final 39 seconds to seal the win.
The Gauchos knocked down eight 3-pointers, compared to three for the Wildcats. UC Santa Barbara shot 43 percent from the field and held the Wildcats to 36 percent.
WSU senior Daryn Hickok led the Wildcats with a season-high 17 points. She also pulled down five rebounds and had three steals.
Kendra Parra and Jadyn Matthews each had eight points and Kaiija Lesane added six points off the bench.
Weber State will face another road test next Wednesday, November 29 at Oregon State in an 11 a.m. Pacific time tipoff.
After that, WSU will play the first home game of the season on December 6 against Nevada.
