The win improves the Weber State squad 9-3 in Big Sky play
Ogden, UT – In an action-packed evening at the Swenson Gym, the Weber State volleyball squad came out victorious against the Idaho State Bengals 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 25-27, 25-17).
Idaho State jumped out to a massive lead in the first set 6-1 but started to let its foot off the gas pedal, allowing Weber State to claw back into it. After a back-and-forth battle, the set was tied 16-16.
The Wildcats ended up scoring four consecutive points earning them the lead 20-16 and ultimately the set after a five-point run, 25-17. In a similar fashion, both squads went back and forth in the second set switching between who held the lead. Weber State went on a 4-1 run pulling the set to 16-16 and the 'Cats were then able to gain control after a three-point lead of 16-19, securing the set 25-22.
Heading into set three with a 2-0 advantage the Wildcats were looking to end the match with a sweep. However, Idaho State found its footing and the 'Cats trailed the Bengals 3-10 early on. Not giving up Weber State's Dani Richins hit four consecutive kills to tie the set 17-17 and yet another kill made by Richins gave the 'Cats a one-point lead, but the Bengals did not give up. After a 3-1 run to give ISU enough of an advantage and then two kills, they went on to secure set three 27-25.
The tables turned in the fourth set and the Wildcat's momentum skyrocketed as they pulled ahead with a 15-9 lead. Although set four was competitive, a three-point run gave the 'Cats what they needed to clinch the set 25-17 and take a 3-1 match victory.
Weber State now sits 9-3 in the Big Sky. Dani Richins tallied 20 kills, Baylee Bodily with 13, and Ashley Gneiting with 10. Richins lead the team in digs (23) with Kate Standifird close behind (21).
