Ogden, UT – The Weber State volleyball squad pulled out a dominating 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 26-24) victory against the Montana Griz this Thursday evening.
Taking control of the first set, Weber State found the lead early on 14-8 and from there quickly ran away with the win 25-17. Similarly in the second set, the Wildcats held large leads for potions of the frame. The 'Cats led at 14-6, but the Griz came back with a three-point run which pulled Montana to trail Weber State by five. However, continuing to control the set, Weber State extended their lead and secured the 2-0 advantage after another set win of 25-17.
Set three proved to be the most competitive. The Griz stayed close to the 'Cats throughout the set and eventually found the lead after a 4-point run. A service error made by Montana tied the set 13-13 and from there it was a back-and-forth battle for the win. The score was tied eight more times throughout the third set. A kill made by Ashley Gneiting brought the score to 24-24, and from there two attack errors by the Griz earned the 'Cats a clean 3-0 sweep, 26-24.
Dani Richins led Weber State with 14 kills and three aces. Baylee Bodily and Ashley Gneiting both had nine kills on the night and Kate Standifird and Makayla Sorensen both ended the match with 16 digs.
