Wildcats Open Big Sky Play in Montana

Weber State travels to face Montana and Montana State, opening Big Sky Conference play

• Weber State travels to Missoula, MT for their first Big Sky Conference match up against the Montana Lady Griz this Friday evening. 

• The Wildcats and Lady Griz will tipoff at 7 p.m. from the Dahlberg Arena in Missoula, Montana. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. Live video links and stats at WeberStateSports.com.

Weber State is 3-9 on the season. The Wildcats started with their first seven games on the road but then won three straight games with wins over Nevada, Utah Tech, and Westminster. The 'Cats are coming off a 36-89 loss at Utah last Thursday.  

Through the first 11 games, Weber State has been led by senior Daryn Hickok. She is 11th in the Big Sky at 12.09 points per game and has scored in double figures in four games this season. She leads the team in scoring, 3-pointers, and steals and is third in rebounding. Hickok was named to the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference team and earned All-Big Sky honors last year. She has played in 115 games in five seasons at Weber State and ranks seventh in career scoring. 

Senior Jadyn Matthews has scored in double figures six times this season and leads the team in rebounding at 5.3 per game. She is second in scoring at 11.7 points per game and second in assists and steals. Matthews has played in 123 career games at Weber State. She ranks fourth in career rebounding and 15th in career scoring. She was fifth in the Big Sky Conference in rebounding and 11th in scoring last season. 

Weber State is under the direction of first year head coach Jenteal Jackson who was named the seventh head coach in WSU history in April. A Utah native and former in-state college player, she came to Weber State after spending the last two seasons as head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Prior to becoming head coach, she spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. She played college basketball at BYU and Westminster. 

Montana is 6-3 on the season. The Lady Griz have won the past three of their games against Cal Poly, San Diego, and UC San Diego. Their only losses in the season have been against Gonzaga, Washington State, and Colorado State. Last season the Lady Griz went 14-16 overall,10-8 in Big Sky Conference play. Montana made it to the first round of the Big Sky Tournament but fell 64-72 against Eastern Washington. This will be the 93rd meeting between the Wildcats and the Lady Griz. With Montana holding a 77-15 series lead. The Lady Griz have won the last three games against the Wildcats and Montana is 42-4 all-time in games in Missoula. Weber State's last win against Montana was in 2022 in Ogden.

• After their match up against the Lady Griz, the Wildcats head to Bozeman. Weber State and Montana State will tipoff at 2 p.m. from the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

• Montana State is 5-6 on the season. The Bobcats have won their past two games against Wyoming and North Texas. Last season the Bobcats went 20-11 overall, 13-5 in Big Sky Conference play. Montana State made it to the first round of the Big Sky Tournament but fell 65-77 against Portland State. This will be the 93rd meeting between the Wildcats and the Bobcats. With Montana State holding a 59-34 series lead. The Bobcats have won the last four games against the Wildcats and Montana State is 34-11 all-time in games in Bozeman. Weber State's last win against Montana State was in 2021 in Ogden.

After Sunday's game, the Wildcats will be home for a non-conference game on January 6 against Kansas City.
