12/29/2023 8:53:00 PM | Women's Basketball

The Wildcats head to Bozeman for another road trip game against the Bobcats on New Year’s Eve

Missoula, MT – The Weber State women's basketball team fell to the Montana Lady Griz in their Big Sky Conference opener by a score of 71-87.

What turned out to be a slow offensive first quarter for Weber State, Montana jumped out to an early 9-0 lead. With 6:50 to go, Jadyn Matthews put the Wildcats on the board with a jumper. A three-pointer later made by Kendra Parra brought the Wildcats to trail the Lady Griz by three, 13-10. However, a seven-point run ended the first quarter 20-12 in favor of Montana. The second quarter saw much of the same with Montana putting up 26 points and Weber State 17 heading into the half. Weber State and Montana shot fairly close with Weber's 43% compared to Montana's 44% in the first half.

The second half proved to be more competitive as the Wildcat offense and defense started to get on the same page. Only allowing the Lady Griz 13 points in the third quarter, the Wildcats with their 14 points were able to pull close and trail Montana 45-59. Kendra Parra put up five points and Laura Taylor with four in the third.

An eight-point run made by Weber State in the fourth brought them to single digits as Montana held the lead by only eight points. A three made by Parra put the Wildcats at an 11-0 run and to only trail behind by five points. Despite the Wildcats strong effort in the fourth quarter, the Lady Griz were able to create game-defining separation and pull away for the 71-87 win.
