Weber State is back home Jan 6 for a non-conference game against Kansas City.
Bozeman, MT – Closing out their opening weekend of the Big Sky Conference season, the Weber State women's basketball team fell 43-57 to the Montana State Bobcats.
The Wildcats got off to an ideal start with a layup made by Amelia Raidaveta and another by Daryn Hickok keeping Weber State close to the Bobcats as they trailed them by one, 4-5 in the beginning of the first quarter. A four-point run later made by the Bobcats helped increased their lead by 10 and close out the quarter 8-18.
Weber State's Laura Taylor made the first score of the second quarter for the Wildcats with a three-pointer with five minutes to go until the half. Soon after, a seven-point run with two three-pointers made by Taylor Smith and Taylor brought the Wildcats to trail by seven. Despite the Wildcats tough offense, Montana State took a 34-20 lead into the half.
Baskets were hard to come by in the third quarter for both teams with only seven total points scored for the Wildcats and five for the Bobcats. Kaiija Lesane had a jumper early on, Taylor with another three-pointer, and a pair of free throws for Kendra Parra.
The Bobcat offense caught fire and created a 48-32 advantage for Montana State near the end of the fourth quarter. Unable to cut back that lead, the Bobcats defended their home court with a 57-43 win.
