GAME NOTES: Wildcats Back Home Against Kansas City

• Weber State will host the Kansas City Roos January, 6 at the Dee Events Center for the two teams first ever meeting. 

• The Wildcats and Roos will tipoff at 12 p.m. from the Dee Events Center in Ogden, UT. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. Live video links and stats at WeberStateSports.com.

Weber State is 3-11 overall and 0-2 in the Big Sky. The Wildcats started with their first seven games on the road but then won three straight games with wins over Nevada, Utah Tech, and Westminster. The Wildcats are coming off a 43-57 loss against Montana State this past Sunday. 

Weber State had been led by senior Daryn Hickok. She is 11th in the Big Sky at 11.6 points per game and has scored in double figures in seven games for the Wildcats. Hickok leads the team in scoring, steals, and rebounding. Hickok was named to the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference team and earned All-Big Sky honors last year. She has played in 117 games in five seasons at Weber State and ranks seventh in career scoring.

Senior Jadyn Matthews has scored in double figures six times this season and is second in scoring at 9.9 points per game. She is second in rebounding and assists for Weber State. Matthews has played in 125 career games at Weber State. She also ranks fourth in career rebounding and 15th in career scoring. She was fifth in the Big Sky Conference in rebounding and 11th in scoring last season.

Weber State is under the direction of first year head coach Jenteal Jackson who was named the seventh head coach in WSU history in April. A Utah native and former in-state college player, she came to Weber State after spending the last two seasons as head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Prior to becoming head coach, she spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. She played college basketball at BYU and Westminster. 

Kansas City is 8-8, 0-2 on the season. The Roos have lost their last three games against St. Thomas, Oral Roberts, and Missouri. Their last win was against Portland State 75-56. 

Last season the Kansas City Roos went 9-23, 3-15 on the season. In the 2023 Summit League Women's Basketball Championship the Roos beat #7 Denver (66-65) and #2 North Dakota State (71-64) before falling to #6 Omaha (60-69). 

After Saturday's game, the Wildcats will host Sacramento State for another Big Sky Conference game Thursday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m.
