Wildcats drop road game at Utah Valley

Weber State back home to host Cal Poly Saturday night.
OREM - After more than a week off, Weber State returned to action for an in-state battle against Utah Valley in Orem and the Wolverines had a big second half to defeat the 'Cats 70-54 Tuesday night at the UCCU Center.
The Wildcats led by seven points at 29-22 with 6:50 to play in the first half after a third 3-pointer from Steven Verplanken.
Utah Valley then responded with a 12-0 run and led 34-29. The Wolverines led by as many as eight in the first half and closed the half on a 16-3 run and held a 38-32 lead at halftime.
UVU outscored Weber State 32-22 in the second half. The 'Cats cut the UVU lead to two points early in the second half before another big run by the Wolverines.
Utah Valley went on a 17-2 run over the next seven minutes and took a 17-point lead at 62-45. Weber State was never closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
UVU shot 54 percent from the field, compared to 35 percent for Weber State. The Wildcats were 6 of 20 from 3-point range, including 1 of 10 in the second half. WSU was also just 6 of 18 from the free throw line.
Dillon Jones led the Wildcats with 13 points and had seven rebounds with three assists and three steals.
Steven Verplanken added 11 points and made three 3-pointers. Blaise Threatt had nine points and Alex Tew tied his career-high with eight rebounds.
The Wildcats will return home to host Cal Poly Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.
