'Cats cruise to 78-50 win over Cal Poly

Weber State forced 22 Cal Poly turnovers and knocked down 10 3-pointers in the win.
OGDEN - Weber State never trailed, made 10 3-pointers and forced 22 turnovers as the Wildcats cruised to 78-50 win over Cal Poly Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.Â
The Wildcats committed a season-low seven turnovers and forced a season-high 22 turnovers by Cal Poly. Weber State also had 37 points off those turnovers, compared to just two points off turnovers for the Mustangs.Â
Weber State led by 20 at halftime and the lead was never less than 17 in the second half. Weber State led by as many as 36 points before the 28-point win.Â
Three Wildcats scored in double figures, led by junior Dyson Koehler who had a career-high 17 points and had a career-high five steals. He knocked down three 3-pointers and was a perfect 8 of 8 from the free throw line.Â
Dillon Jones nearly made history with a triple double. He finished with 15 points, had 10 rebounds, and dished out a career-high nine assists, along with two steals.Â
Steven Verplancken made five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points, to go along with four rebounds and two steals.Â
The Wildcats were 10 of 26 from 3-point range and held the Mustangs to just five 3-pointers. Weber State was 16 of 19 from the free throw line and outrebounded Cal Poly 32-29.Â
WSU improved to 5-3 overall on the season. The Wildcats are back on the road for two games against Mountain West Conference teams next week. WSU will play at Nevada on Wednesday and at Wyoming on Saturday.Â
