'Cats fall 72-55 at Nevada

RENO, Nev. - Nevada had double-digit runs in both halves to defeat Weber State 72-55 Wednesday night at the Lawlor Events Center.Â
Nevada had five players in double figures and shot 57 percent from the field, the best shooting percentage against Weber State this season. The Wolfpack also made nine 3-pointers and had 21 assists, the most by a Wildcat opponent this season. WSU won the rebounding margin 32-29 but the 'Cats committed a season-high 15 turnovers and were just 5 of 11 from the free throw line.Â
After a Dillon Jones 3-pointer, the game was tied 17-17 with 6:10 to play in the first half. That's when Nevada went on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes and took a 27-17 lead. The Wolfpack led 29-22 at halftime.Â
Nevada shot 65 percent from the field in the second half. The Wildcats trailed by five points with 14:34 to play in the game when the Wolfpack went on a 13-0 run and took a 52-34 lead midway through the second half. WSU was never closer than 13 points the rest of the way and the Wolfpack led by as many as 21 points.Â
Wildcat junior Blaise Threatt had a season-high 18 points to lead the Wildcats. He started the game and finished 8 of 12 from the field, knocked down two 3-pointers, and dished out four assists.Â
Dillon Jones had his sixth double-double in eight games played as he finished with 13 points and had a game-high 12 rebounds. He also had three assists and three steals.Â
Steven Verplancken added 10 points and made two 3-pointers.Â
Nevada improved to 8-1 on the season. Weber State is now 5-4 overall.Â
The Wildcats continue their road trip with another game at a Mountain West Conference school when the 'Cats play at Wyoming Saturday night in Laramie.Â
