• Fresh off the first win of the season, the Weber State women's basketball team is back on the road for an in-state matchup, taking on Utah Tech Saturday afternoon.
• The Wildcats and Trailblazers will tipoff at 2 p.m. Saturday from Burns Arena in St. George. The game will be televised on ESPN+ and the ESPN app. Live stats available at WeberStateSports.com.
• Weber State played its first home game and picked up its first win on Wednesday night with a 57-55 win over Nevada at the Dee Events Center. The Wildcats outrebounded the Wolfpack 44-37 and knocked down six 3-pointers.
• Wildcat senior Daryn Hickok led WSU with 17 points, which tied her season-high, and had seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal in the win over Nevada. Hickok has scored in double figures in three of the last five games and is second on the Wildcat team in scoring at 9.9 points per game and is also second in rebounding at 4.8 per game.
• Hickok was named to the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference team and earned All-Big Sky honors last year. She has played in 111 games in five seasons at Weber State and Wednesday moved into seventh in career scoring with 1,491 points. She needs nine more points to become the ninth player in Weber State history to reach 1,500 career points.
• Through the first eight games, WSU has been led by senior Jadyn Matthews who is leading the team in scoring at 10.1 points per game and is third in rebounding at 4.6 per game and is second in field goal percentage. Matthews has played in 119 career games at Weber State, tied for the sixth-most in school history, and ranks fifth in career rebounding and 15th in career scoring. She was fifth in the Big Sky Conference in rebounding and 11th in scoring last season.
• Weber State is under the direction of first year head coach Jenteal Jackson who was named the seventh head coach in WSU history in April. A Utah native and former in-state college player, she came to Weber State after spending the last two seasons as head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Prior to becoming head coach, she spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. She played college basketball at BYU and Westminster.
• Utah Tech is 5-3 overall on the season. The Trailblazers have wins over La Verne, Jacksonville State, New Hampshire, Stonehill College, and Utah Valley. They are coming off a 78-69 loss at California Baptist in the WAC opener on Wednesday. Utah Tech is coached by JD Gustin, a former Weber State assistant coach.
• This will be just the third meeting ever between the two schools and the first in St. George. Weber State beat then-Dixie State in 2009. Utah Tech won 69-65 in Ogden last December.
• Weber State will be back home next week to host Westminster on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
