Wildcat football adds eight in February 2023 signing class

OGDEN - Weber State football added eight new players to join the Wildcat program as part of the February 2023 National Signing Day. Weber State also signed four players in the December 2022 signing period. 

The Wildcats added one Division I transfer in sophomore wide receiver Jayleen Record, who transferred to Weber State from SMU. He will have three seasons of eligibility with the Wildcats. 

From the high school class, the group includes six defensive players and one on offense. The 'Cats picked up three defensive backs, two on the defensive line, one linebacker, and one tight end. The class has three players from California, two from Texas, and two from Washington. The December signing class included four offensive players, with two from California, one from Arizona and one from Idaho.  

"We are really excited about the class we signed," said new Weber State head coach Mickey Mental. "Our assistant coaches did a fantastic job of creating and building relationships. We got a lot of impactful players and a lot of great people that will help us keep winning football games."  

The Wildcats are scheduled to begin spring practice on March 14 with the spring game set for April 15. 

Weber State is coming off a 10-win season in 2022 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs. The Wildcats had five All-Americans and 15 players earned All-Big Sky honors.

Jayleen Record

Record was a part of the SMU program for the last two seasons. He played in seven games as a freshman in 2021, primarily as a punt returner. He had four punt returns for eight years. He also earned academic all-conference honors. He played in four games in 2022 for his red shirt season. He will have three seasons of eligibility at Weber State. Record was a three-star recruit out of James Madison High School in Dallas. 

BJ Carey

Carey is a three-star recruit safety out of Downey High School in Downey, California. He recorded 78 tackles as a senior and also had one interception with eight pass breakups and three forced fumbles. He also played was a wide receiver on offense and had 1,517 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns. He also had two kickoff return touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. 

Cade Clyde

Clyde is also a three-star recruit out of Connell, Washington. He recorded 26 tackles with eight tackles for loss. He also played as a tight end on offense. 

Ishaan Daniels 

Daniels is another three-star recruit at cornerback out of Bellevue, Washington. He helped lead Bellevuew to a 3A state title and earned all-state honors. 

Mayson Hitchens

Hitchens is a linebacker out of Orange, California. He totaled 117 tackles with six sacks and 11 tackles for loss. He also had three interceptions, in addition to rushing for nearly 500 yards and six touchdowns on offense. 

Dayhlyn Jones

Jones signs with Weber State as a tight end out of DeSoto, Texas. He had 47 receptions for 609 yards and seven touchdeowns as a senior. 

Logan Mackey

Mackey is a defensive back out of Houston, Texas. He had 32 tackles and six pass breakups as a senior at C.E. King High School. 

Carson Mott

Mott is a three-star defensive end out of Simi Valley, California who was originally committed to Cal and Colorado. He totaled 26 tackles with six sacks as a senior.
