Wildcats fall 89-82 to Eastern Washington

Weber State hosts Idaho Saturday night in the final regular season home game.

OGDEN - Eastern Washington used a big second half to win the outright Big Sky title and its 18-straight game with an 89-82 victory over Weber State Thursday night at the Dee Events Center. 

The Eagles improved ot 16-0 in Big Sky play, the best start in conference history. They have the nation's longest winning streak at 18-straight games. 

Weber State is now 10-6 in Big Sky p;lay with two conference games remaining. The Wildcats will finish third or fourth in the league standings. 

WSU led 43-41 at halftime and made eight 3-pointers in the first half., but the 'Cats were 0 for 10 from 3-point range in the second half. 

Weber State scored the first points of the second half and led 47-43, before Eastern Washington went on a 12-0 run and led 53-45. The Wildcats never got closer than five points the rest of the way. 

The Eagles shot 55 percent from the field, compared to 46 percent for Weber State. Eastern Washington was 13 of 23 from 3-point range and dished out 20 assists. 

The Wildcats outrebounded the Eagles 33-30 but finished 8 of 26 from 3-point range. 

Dillon Jones led the way with 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists. He was 6 of 13 from the field and 8 of 9 from the free throw line. Jones also moved into fifth place on the Weber State career rebounding list, now with 787. 

Dyson Koehler had a career-high 16 points on 7 of 11 shooting with two 3-pointers, to go along with five rebounds and two assists. 

Zahir Porter added 14 points off the bench and Steven Verplancken had 12 points. Alex Tew had eight points and eight rebounds. 

Weber State host the Idaho Vandals Saturday night in the final regular season home game of the year. WSU will close out the regular season at Northern Arizona Monday night before the Big Sky Tournament, which will be held March 4-8 in Boise, Idaho.
