Wildcats Advance To Big Sky Championship Match

Weber State will take on Northern Arizona for the Big Sky title Saturday morning.
Phoenix, AZ - The Weber State women's tennis team rallied against the No. 3 seeded Portland State Vikings this Friday morning pulling out an impressive 4-3 victory and moving them a step closer for a chance to win the Big Sky title.Â
The 'Cats finished with a 10-8 overall record and 6-2 in the Big Sky. The women's tennis squad will head to the Championship match of the Big Sky Tournament for the third year in a row.Â
After losing the doubles point, the Wildcats found themselves in a back and forth battle against the Vikings to secure the win in singles play.
WSU's Kenadee Semenik took the first match 6-2, 6-4 to even the score at 1-1. Nika Beukers responded with a 6-2, 6-2 result against Cindy Ping An on court four to regain the advantage for Portland. Increasing their lead by two, Elizabeth Strongina took the upper hand 6-2, 6-4 over Megan Lombardi on court three.Â
Megan Davies won by retirement on court two and Dylan Lolofie evened out the score 3-3 with her 7-6, 6-2 victory on court six.Â
For the clinch, Weber State's Ana Morett picked up a big win at the No. 1 spot. She defeated Mariya Ponomareva in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to give Weber the overall match win 4-3.
