Big Performances Ahead of Big Sky Championships

Pocatello, ID – The Weber State Wildcats were at Idaho State this weekend for the Bengal Invitational in the last meet before the Conference Championships on May 10 in Greeley, CO. In a weekend of celebration for graduating seniors, Wildcats added strong performances against a great field of competitors to tune up for Championship season.
 
Alex Wheeler had a great weekend with two PRs and two WSU all-time rankings. In the 100m dash Alex ran 10.56 to jump into the record books at #5, his time has him ranked sixth in the Big Sky this season! He followed up by running 21.08 in the 200m which improves on his #7 time at WSU, and moves him to second in the Big Sky.
 
Rodee Brow performed similar to Alex in earning PRs in both the 100 and 200 with times of 10.93 and 21.59 respectively. Rodee finished seventh overall in the 200 and was just outside the WSU all-time list.
 
G Kire Goulding performed well in both the 110 and 400m hurdles, finishing fifth in the 110 with a time of 14.95, and sixth in 400 at 55.53.
 
Wheeler, Brow, and Goulding ran with Reece Gardner in the 4x400 relay where they finished first with a solid time of 3:14.65.
 
In the 800m Hanokh Gailson finished third overall with a time of 1:52.59, when converted for altitude his time ranks seventh in the Big Sky at 1:52.08. Gailson was followed by Bryce Anderson finishing eight at 1:54.64.
 
Gailson also finished fourth in the 1500m with a time of 3:48.81 converting for altitude would be 3:44.56 for number seven in the Big Sky. Finishing just ahead of Gailson was fellow Wildcat Bronson Winter who came in at 3:47.86 to finish third overall. Converting for altitude would put Winter at 3:43.62 and ranks number five in the Big Sky. Bryce Anderson finished close as well with a time of 3:54.93 to finish ninth.
 
In the 5000 Logan Anderson led the way among the Wildcats with a third-place finish and a time of 14:48.83. He was followed by freshman, Tanner Rogers in fifth with a time of 15:10.59, Carson Horspool in sixth at 15:15.95, and Taylor Knight finishing ninth at 15:34.93.
 
Ty Davis finished first in the meet in the 3000 Steeplechase with a time of 9:06.19. Winter came close behind Davis at 9:07.19 to finish second. They were followed by Jamison Wilkes in fourth at 9:23.04, and Chase Evans in sixth at 9:26.31.
 
Field events saw strong performances as well from athletes. Anthony Garcia earned a solid PR in the high jump, clearing a mark of 6-09.00. Garcia finished third in the event and his mark ranks fifth in the Big Sky this season.
 
A pair of Pole Vaulters, Brow, and Gardner each cleared a height of 15-03.50 to finish seventh.
 
Throwers were highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw by Jake Weathers who threw 172-11.00, a season best for him.
 
Another season best came from Cody Canard in the javelin, throwing 214-04.00 to finish second in the meet. Cody currently ranks fifth in the Big Sky.
 
The Wildcats will have two weeks to rest and prepare for the Conference Championships on May 10. Congratulations to all who have qualified to compete in the conference meet, and especially a huge congratulations to the 21 track and field and cross country athletes who graduated this weekend.
