Damian Lillard returned to Ogden to host another Weber State Basketball Classic Saturday at the Dee Events Center and was joined by 30 former Wildcat greats that put on a show for the WSU fans.Â
Lillard, a seven-time NBA All-Star with the Portland Trail Blazers, participated in the Shooting Stars contest and also was one of the coaches for the White Team.Â
"It's always a pleasure to be back to Weber State," Lillard said. "I spent so many important years of my life here and it's a pleasure to cross paths with people who played an important role in my journey. It's great to see the fans come out and see the players. To be able to come back and do this again is special and an honor to be a part of."
The Alumni Game included 30 former players, including four Big Sky MVP's and several all-conference players. The White team defeated the Purple team 102-87. Scott Bamforth, who is still playing professionally in Spain, was named the MVP and lead all scorers with 17 points. Ryan Richardson added 14 points with four 3-pointers for the White team. Steve Panos had 12 points and seven rebounds and JJ Overton added 11 points. The White team was coached by WSU head coach Eric Duft and Lillard.Â
The Purple team was led by Dan Henry with 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Davin Berry added 14 points and five assists, and Dusty Baker and Kyndahl Hill each had 10 points.Â
There was also involvement from a few alumnae of the Weber State women's basketball progarm, including Hall of Fame members Julie Gjertsen Meurer and Crystal Howe Nye. Former WSU women's head coach Carla Taylor also served as one of the coaches.Â
Prior to the game, team team of JJ Overton, Davion Berry and Zharia Hale won the Shooting Stars contest. Berry also won the 3-point contest, scoring 21 points in the finals to beat Scott Bamforth.Â
