Wildcats Fight Hard in Logan, Fall to Aggies

LOGAN, Utah – The Weber State Wildcat volleyball team stormed the Estes Center and won a dramatic first set from the Utah State Aggies on Thursday night, but the hosts ultimately came out on top with a final score of 3-1.
In the first of two-consecutive sets that went to extra points, the two sides saw 12 ties and eight lead changes throughout the frame. Weber State showed its trademark grit to earn a hard-fought 26-24 first and seized the momentum of the match.
Despite a staunch defense that held the Aggies to a .000 hitting percentage for the set, the second went by the same score but the teams were on opposite sides of the result. The Aggies tied the match up and carried that same energy into a vital third set.
The Wildcat offense couldn't get quite up to the speed it wanted to in the third, and USU took the set 25-22 to capture a 2-1 lead in the match.
Weber State's attack started to come together in the fourth set, but the USU attack was on fire and the red-hot Aggies took the fourth set to claim the victory.
NOTABLES
-Dani Richins scored 13 kills on the evening and passed the 1,500-kill plateau for her career. She is just the third Wildcat to ever reach 1,500 kills
-Brielle Rueckert's strong start to the season continued as she hit .375 for seven kills on 16 swings.
-Weber State out-blocked Utah State 20-17.
