GAME NOTES: Wildcats Close Out Weekend Against Portland State

• Weber State will host Portland State Saturday afternoon at the Dee Events Center.
• The Wildcats and Vikings will tip off at 2 p.m. from the Dee Events Center in Ogden, UT. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. Live video links and stats at WeberStateSports.com.
• Weber State is 4-12 overall and 1-2 in the Big Sky. The Wildcats started with their first seven games on the road but then won three straight games with wins over Nevada, Utah Tech, and Westminster. The Wildcats are coming off their first Big Sky win on the season against Sacramento State 81-61 this past Thursday.
• Weber State has been led by senior Daryn Hickok. She is 10th in the Big Sky at 11.8 points per game and has scored in double figures in nine games for the Wildcats. Hickok leads the team in scoring and steals. Hickok was named to the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference team and earned All-Big Sky honors last year. She has played in 119 games in five seasons at Weber State and ranks seventh in career scoring.
• Senior Jadyn Matthews has scored in double figures eight times this season and is second in scoring at 11.2 points per game. Matthews collected a career high 30 points in the Wildcats game against Sacramento State while also recording a season high 11 rebounds and five assists. She is first in rebounding and second in assists for Weber State. Matthews has played in 127 career games at Weber State. She also ranks fourth in career rebounding and 13th in career scoring. She was fifth in the Big Sky Conference in rebounding and 11th in scoring last season.
• Weber State is under the direction of first year head coach Jenteal Jackson who was named the seventh head coach in WSU history in April. A Utah native and former in-state college player, she came to Weber State after spending the last two seasons as head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Prior to becoming head coach, she spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. She played college basketball at BYU and Westminster.Â
• Portland State is 5-10, 0-3 on the season. The Vikings have lost their last seven games with their last win against Bushnell 69-60. The Vikings Esmeralda Morales leads Portland State and the Big Sky in scoring at 18.9 points per game.Â
• This will be the 61st all-time meeting between the two schools with Portland State holding a 30-31 series lead. In the last match up between the two teams, the Wildcats beat the Vikings 62-55 in Ogden. Portland State is 12-17 all-time in games in Ogden and 19-11 in Portland. The Vikings last win in the series was on 1/19/23 in Portland.
• After Saturday's game, the Wildcats hit the road as they head to Cheney, WA to go up against the Eastern Washington Eagles Thursday, Jan. 18 at 12 p.m.
