Wildcats Find Momentum Early, Beat Vikings 89-53

Following their second conference win, the Wildcats hit the road Jan. 18 for a road game against the Eastern Washington Eagles.
Ogden, UT – The Weber State women's basketball team fought this Saturday afternoon against the Portland State Vikings and after 40 minutes of game play, won 89-53.
The Weber State women's basketball team found their momentum early as Amelia Raidaveta kicked off scoring for the Wildcats with a layup followed by a pair of free throws made by Kendra Parra. After a nine-point run for the 'Cats, Weber State led 21-11 over Portland State with a minute left in the first quarter. The Vikings couldn't chip away at the lead and the Wildcats continued their run to 13 points to end the first quarter ahead 24-11.
It was all Weber State in the second quarter, scoring 16 points compared to the Vikings 11. Weber State ended the half 40-22 and was led by Jadyn Matthews with 10 points.
Opening the third quarter the Wildcats were eager to further increase their lead. Raidaveta started the 'Cats off with a layup and quickly after a jumper made by Matthews followed. The Wildcats shooting was on fire as the team put up 30 on the board. From the team's tough defense the Vikings found no opportunities to score and the 'Cats looked to enter the final frame with a 70-36 lead.
Despite the Vikings best attempts to slow the Wildcats down, Weber State held strong for the final frame and walked away with an 89-53 victory on the day.
"I'm really proud of our group, I thought that we were extremely patient offensively to work for the best shot," said Jenteal Jackson. "These past two games were really good confidence boosters for us and this week it's felt like our work has paid off. I'm proud of our girls and how they've responded, stayed together and continued to show up and work hard through some adversity. I'm excited to roll this confidence into some road trips."
Top Performances:
Weber State had a new school record with 64.3% shooting from the field.
This was the largest margin victory over a Big Sky opponent since 2001 for the Wildcats.
For the second time this season Amelia Raidaveta had 13 points.
Jadyn Matthews led the Wildcats with 17 points.
Daryn Hickok and Taylor Smith both had 15 points with a new career high for Smith.
Kendra Parra shot 3-4 in three-pointers, ending with 13 points.
Laura Taylor had eight rebounds for the second time in her career.
