OGDEN - The Weber State volleyball squad topped Portland State 3-1 this Saturday evening. The win improves the Wildcats to 6-3 in Big Sky play.
SET 1 | The Wildcats jumped out to a quick 6-1 advantage to start the first set with help from an Ashley Gneiting kill and Rose Moore service ace. Chipping away at that lead, the Vikings pulled to trail the 'Cats by four. However, the Weber State squad continued to rack up kills and took the set 25-18.
SET 2 | It was a slower start for the Wildcats in the second as the team trailed the Vikings 8-3 before head coach Jeremiah Larsen called a timeout. Unfortunately, the Wildcats could not come back from the deficit and the Vikings earned the set 25-15.
SET 3 | Weber State exploded in the third set taking a 13-6 lead thanks to nine Wildcat kills. It was all WSU until the end with a 25-14 set victory in the 'Cats favor.
Weber State will face Montana State on Thursday, October 31 at 7 p.m. in Bozeman.Â

SET 4 | A battle unfolded in the fourth set, as both teams stayed close. Until an 8-0 run by Weber State created some separation between the two teams. That run gave WSU the advantage needed to win the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.Â
Two Wildcats were in double digits for kills. Both Gneiting and Moore had 13. Weber State finished out the match performing best in the fourth, with 13 kills for a .344 percentage and only two errors.Â
"We took a good step forward this week," said head coach Jeremiah Larsen. "A lot of our players grew up and took on the roles that our program needed this week. I hope that this lays a foundation we can continue to build on."
