Wildcats take down Lumberjacks in three-set sweep

OGDEN - A dominating Weber State volleyball team took down the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in a three-set sweep and improved their win streak to six.

SET 1 | The Weber State volleyball squad dominated the Lumberjacks to begin the match 25-8 in the first set. A 9-0 run courtesy of three Wildcat kills and six NAU errors separated the two teams early on 13-4. Not long after, a seven-point run created even more separation between the two squads, enough for the Wildcats to secure the set.

SET 2 | Weber State held onto the lead for the majority of the second set however, Northern Arizona came out with more fight in the second and tied it up 19-19. It was a back-and-forth battle with the set tied again at 25-25. Moving into extra points, NAU took a 27-26 advantage until a Saane Munyer kill tied it back up. Keeping the momentum and running with it another kill by Munyer put the 'Cats at match point and a block by Munyer and Jayda Tupea secured the set 29-27.

SET 3 | Northern Arizona went on a 6-0 run to come back and take the lead from Weber State in the beginning of the third set but a trio of errors by the Lumberjacks allowed the Wildcats to tie the score and then take back the lead after two Tupea and Rose Moore kills. Fighting back from a five-point deficit, the Lumberjacks moved to trail the Wildcats by one and eventually tie at 18-18 before taking the lead 21-19. Going up by two, NAU was looking to stay in the match until a big block by Moore and a Lumberjack attack error gave Weber State the match with a 25-23 set win.

Wildcat Stats

Weber State hit .259 percent in the first set compared to NAU's -.150 percent.
Kate Payne totaled three kills and 25 assists.
Munyer recorded eight kills for a .889 hitting percentage.
Ashley Gneiting and Tupea both had seven kills for the Wildcats.
Overall NAU had 26 attack errors and Weber State had 11.

On Saturday, November 16, the Wildcats will play their final home game against Northern Colorado at 1 p.m. The 'Cats will honor their three seniors, Kate Payne, Liana Woodley, and Baylee Bodily before the game.
