OGDEN - The Northern Colorado Bears snapped Weber State's six game winning streak with a 3-0 match win this Saturday afternoon. Three Wildcat seniors were recognized before today's match, Kate Payne, Baylee Bodily, and Liana Woodley.Â
SET 1 |Â In a battle between the first place Northern Colorado Bears and second place Weber State Wildcats, the two squads went neck and neck to begin the match. Tied at 16-16, the Bears started to pull away and lead by three until a Weber State error ended the set 25-21 in favor of the Bears.
SET 2 | The second set was similar to the first as the Wildcats and Bears battled back and forth until a Weber State 5-0 run gave the 'Cats a boost. Leading 19-14, Weber State was looking to tie the match 1-1 until a Northern Colorado seven-point run brought them back from the deficit to win the set 25-22.
SET 3 | The Bears momentum carried into the third set as they used a 7-0 run to secure the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
From Head Coach Jeremiah Larsen on Senior Day
"Kate is special to me, seeing how she has overcome a lot of challenges and mental blocks to be a great setter in the league is really cool. Liana, all she does is just keep on working harder and getting better and she's earned everything she's gotten. She works hard in the weight room and class room and is a good leader, to see her growth as an individual is pretty special. Baylee always wants to do what is in the best interest of the team, and that is a selfless kid that wants to be successful and understands that her team is the avenue that she can do that through. These three kids are special and left a pretty special legacy for our program."
