Weber State wins Arizona Tip-Off

Weber State beat Pepperdine 68-53 on Saturday. Miguel Tomley had 28 points with six 3-pointers and was named Tournament MVP
TEMPE, Ariz. - Champs in the desert. Weber State won two games in Tempe to claim the Desert Division title of the Arizona Tip-Off. The Wildcats beat Pepperdine 68-53Â Saturday afternoon at the Mullett Arena for the tournament win.Â
Saturday's game was the 100th career game for Wildcat senior Miguel Tomley and it will be a memorable one for him. Tomley scored a season-high 28 points and knocked down six 3-pointers in Saturday's win. He was also 8 of 8 from the free throw line. Â
In the two games, he averaged 22 points and knocked down 10 3-pointers. For his performance, he was named the Tournament MVP.Â
Blaise Threatt was also named to the All-Tournament team and had another strong performance as he finished with 21 points with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. In a return to his hometown, Threatt averaged 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and 3.5 steals per game in the two wins.Â
On Saturday, Pepperdine jumped out to a 10-2 lead but it was all Wildcats after that. Trailing 14-9 with 14:13 to play, the Wildcats went on a 24-5 run over the next nine minutes and took their biggest lead of the first half at 33-19 with 3:08 to play. WSU led 33-23 at halftime after holding the Waves to 27 percent shooting.Â
The 'Cats had a 6-0 run early in the second half and the lead was never less than eight points the rest of the way.Â
"I thought we played terrific defense throughout the game," said WSU head coach Eric Duft. "Our team really came to play today and gave a great effort. I like where we are heading."
Weber State shot 38 percent from the field and knocked down seven 3-pointers. The 'Cats were also 17 of 19 from the free throw line. WSU held the Waves to 32 percent shooting and four 3-pointers.Â
Weber State also outrebounded Pepperdine 43-37.Â
The win is the third straight for the Wildcats who improve to 4-4 on the season.Â
Up next for the Wildcats are two games in the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge. Weber State will host North Dakota State on Wednesday, December 4 at the Dee Events Center. The 'Cats will then play at the University of North Dakota on Saturday, December 7.Â
