Win streak continues for the Wildcats after victory over Bengals

The Wildcats conference record improves 9-3.
OGDEN - The Weber State volleyball squad took down the Idaho State Bengals this Friday evening 3-1 and improved their conference record 9-3. Weber State currently sits in third place in the Big Sky standings.Â
SET 1 | Out to a quick 8-3 lead, the Wildcats forced the Bengals to take an early timeout. Battling back, a tough Idaho State team worked hard to tie the score 14-14. WSU strung together a trio of points courtesy of two Saane Munyer kills and one by Rose Moore to pull ahead by four. Keeping up with that momentum, the Wildcats secured a 25-19 set victory.Â
SET 2 | ISU had a better start in the second, pulling out an 8-1 run. However, a resilient Weber State squad worked together to trail the Bengals by two and then tie the set 10-10. The Wildcats took the lead following a big block by Kate Payne and Munyer. The Bengals continued to work, and regained the lead over Weber State to ultimately win the set 25-20.
SET 3 | Looking to regain the advantage in the match, Weber State did just that with a dominating third set. A duo of runs put the Wildcats up 13-6 and a tough WSU defense did not allow the Bengals a lead throughout the set. Weber State secured the advantage in the match with a 25-14 set win hitting .236 percent and racking up 15 kills and nine blocks. Â
SET 4 | It was a back-and-forth battle in the fourth, with Weber State looking to close out the match. Idaho State secured the early lead with the Wildcats tying the score seven times but unable to take the advantage from the Bengals. Trailing by three, Weber State called a timeout. Following that timeout the Wildcats and Bengals went neck and neck. Exchanging the lead until the 'Cats pulled up by two. A battle until the very end, Idaho State took the lead 25-24 but a bad set by the Bengals tied it up 25-25. Tied again at 26, a solo block by Munyer earned a one point advantage and then another solo block by Jayda Tupea won the match 28-26 and WSU took down the Bengals.Â

Wildcat Stats
- This win improves Weber State's record 9-3, 12-11.Â
- Ashley Gneiting led the team with 16 kills for a .273 hitting percentage. She also totaled 11 digs.
- Tupea was a close second with 14 kills for a .290 hitting percentage.Â
- Overall, the team recorded a .287 percentage performing best in the first set with 18 kills, four errors and 33 total attempts.Â
- Senior setter Kate Payne moved her way up in the Wildcat record standings following today's game recording 3,233 career assists, the second most in Weber State history. Payne is also moving up in career digs ranking third in the record book with 1,478.
- Weber State will play Northern Arizona at home on Thursday, November 14 at 6 p.m.Â
- On Saturday, November 16, the Wildcats will play their final home game against Northern Colorado at 1 p.m. The 'Cats will also honor their three seniors, Kate Payne, Liana Woodley and Baylee Bodily before the game.Â
