Doyle ranks 12th in the nation in punting average and had the fourth-best punting average in WSU single-season history.
OGDEN - Weber State freshman punter Oscar Doyle has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the FCS Punter of the Year, presented by the Augusta Sports Council.Â
Doyle is one of 47 punters from across the country who were nominated for the award by their school's Sports Information Director. Doyle is one of three punters from the Big Sky Conference named a semifinalist. Â
In his first season with the Wildcats in 2024, Doyle finished second in the Big Sky and 12th in all of FCS football in punting average at 44.4 yards per punt. His net average was 42.23. Weber State led the Big Sky and is third in the country in net punting.Â
Doyle had 47 punts for 2,089 yards on the season. His average of 44.45 yards per punt ranks as the fourth-best average in Weber State single-season history. Â
He had a season-long punt of 63 yards at Idaho and had 13 punts over 50 yards during the year. He also had 20 punts finish inside the 20-yard line. He had an average of 52 yards per punt in Weber State's win over Portland State in September, which ranks as the fourth-best average in a game in WSU history. Â
Doyle, a native of Brisbane, Australia, joined the Wildcat program in January 2024.Â
The candidates were evaluated by the FCS Punter of the Year Award committee on their overall statistics and contribution to the team. Particular emphasis was placed on net punting average, number of times a punt was downed or kicked out-of-bounds inside the 20-yard line and percentage of punts not returned. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team's success.
A national voting body of FCS sports information directors, conference representatives, and sports writers will choose the winner from the 10 semifinalists. The winner will be announced on Monday, Dec. 16.
