GAME NOTES: Women's Basketball road trip comes to an end with a game against the Hornets

• Weber State women's basketball hits the road for a game against the Sacramento State Hornets.

• The Wildcats and Hornets will tip off at 3 p.m. from The Nest in Sacramento, CA. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. Live video links and stats can be found at WeberStateSports.com.

• Weber State is 7-17 and 4-7 in the Big Sky and currently sit in eighth place. The Wildcats started with their first seven games on the road but then won three straight games with wins over Nevada, Utah Tech, and Westminster. The Wildcats are coming off a road game win against the Portland State Vikings, 67-46.

• Weber State has been led by senior Daryn Hickok. She is 10th in the Big Sky at 12.4 points per game and has scored in double figures in fifteen games for the Wildcats. Hickok leads the team in scoring, free throws, and steals. Hickok was named to the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference team and earned All-Big Sky honors last year. She has played in 127 games in five seasons at Weber State and ranks fourth in career scoring.

• Senior Jadyn Matthews has scored in double figures thirteen times this season and is second in scoring at 11.4 points per game. Matthews collected a career high 30 points in the Wildcats game against Sacramento State on 1/11/24 while also recording a season high 11 rebounds and five assists. She is first in rebounding and second in assists for Weber State. Matthews has played in 135 career games at Weber State and ranks first in Weber State history in career games played. She also ranks fourth in career rebounding and 10th in career scoring. She was fifth in the Big Sky Conference in rebounding and 11th in scoring last season.

• Weber State is under the direction of first year head coach Jenteal Jackson who was named the seventh head coach in WSU history in April. A Utah native and former in-state college player, she came to Weber State after spending the last two seasons as head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Prior to becoming head coach, she spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. She played college basketball at BYU and Westminster. 

• Sacramento State is 3-19, 2-9 on the season. The Hornets won their last game against Idaho State 61-58 in Sacramento. The Sacramento State squad is led by Summah Hanson in scoring, rebounds and blocks. Hanson is sixth in the Big Sky in scoring averaging 13.8 points per game. She is second in rebounding averaging 8.5. The Hornets currently sit in ninth place in the Big Sky Conference. 

• This will be the 63rd all-time meeting between the two teams with a seires of 35-20. In the last matchup between the two, the Wildcats beat the Hornets 81-61. Sacramento State is 12-13 in all-time games in Sacramento. The Hornets last win in the series was on 2/16/23.

• After Saturday's game, the Wildcats are back home for a game against the Idaho Vandals Thursday, Feb. 15 at 6:00 p.m.
