Wildcats fall short in Big Sky Championship

Phoenix, AZ - The Weber State women's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision against Sacramento State this Saturday morning in the championship match of the Big Sky Tournament.

Sacramento State captured the first point as its No. 2 duo defeated Dylan Lolofie and Sicely Ferreira 6-1. In response, the Weber State duo of Ana Morett and Megan Davies took the win on court one 6-3. The deciding doubles came down to court three where Kenadee Semenik and Jessica Hill fought against their opponents but fell 6-4. With the doubles point secured, the Hornets went into singles with a 1-0 advantage.Â

Sacramento State increased their lead, winning on Nos. 5 and 6. Ana Morett earned a point for Weber State defeating Lou Baudouin 6-1, 6-3. The score was 3-1 with three singles still in play. Bringing the 'Cats their second point, Sydney Schnell topped Elena Mercioiu 6-4, 6-1.Â

Needing one more point to tie the match, Megan Davies was up against Mayya Gorbunova on court one. Despite a tough battle between the two, Davies fell 6-3, 6-4 and the Hornets went on to win the Big Sky 2024 regular season title.
