The two were the first WSU men's throwers to compete at the Olympic Trials

Two Weber State men's track and field athletes competed in the United States Olympic Trials Friday in Eugene, Oregon.

The two Wildcat seniors Josh Trafny and Cody Canard were the first two men's throwers to compete in the Olympic Trials.

Trafny finished 20th overall in the event with a throw of 210-09. Canard was 23rd overall at 189-03.

Earlier this year, Canard shattered the Weber State and Big Sky record in the javelin with a mark of 256-02 which broke the school record by nearly 30 feet and broke the conference record by 12 feet. That is the mark that qualified him for the Olympic Trials. Canard was third at the Big Sky Championships this year with a mark of 234-08 to earn all-conference honors.

Trafny recently competed at the NCAA Championships in the javelin where he finished 23rd overall to earn honorable mention honors. He was the first Wildcat men's athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the javelin since 1998. He finished second at the Big Sky Championships in May and was 12th at the NCAA West Regionals to qualify for the NCAA's.

Earlier this year, Trafny had a career-best mark of 242-03 in the javelin, which is the second-best in WSU history and the third-best in Big Sky history.
