Springfield, Mo. - Weber State volleyball won their first match at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational in a dominating three-set battle against the Saint Louis Billikens.
SET 1 | Weber State caught fire as the first set progressed. Using a 5-1 run early on, the Billikens chipped away at the lead until a service ace by Kate Aupperle gave Saint Louis the advantage 15-14 and forced a Wildcat timeout. Returning to the court, Weber State boosted themselves to a 25-18 victory courtesy of six kills from Ashley Gneiting.
SET 2 | Weber State and Saint Louis competed close early in the second set. The Wildcats were able to pull away within a few points 16-12 but the Billikens continued to battle, and stayed within reach of the Weber State lead. Spreading the ball across the court to keep the Billikens guessing, a five-point run gave WSU the space needed to secure a 25-19 set two win.
SET 3 | The third set saw more excellence from the Weber State squad. In addition to a strong defense, the Wildcat offense took off with a 12-5 lead to start the set. WSU rattled off seven kills quickly with three coming from Rose Moore. The Wildcat offense continued to dig at the Saint Louis defense until they were shut down by a 25-10 set win in favor of the Wildcats to take a commanding 3-0 sweep.
